Stress Related Acne
In today’s world of all work and very little relaxation we endure repeated stress alarms, we rarely if ever have to respond physically; the other is that much of our stress may continue for long periods, often semi-permanently.
Unlike the athlete whose stress response starts at the beginning and ends at the conclusion of the game, many of us, facing the daily stress of work or money shortage or family problems, never turn those stresses off. For both these reasons, for many people, the stress reaction is almost continual. We even suffer from nightmares or wake up in the middle of the night, filled with anxiety about how to pay tomorrow's bills.
As a result, the adrenaline and other energy-producing chemicals secreted by the adrenal glands have a negative effect. Rather than shutting down various bodily operating systems - and increasing blood sugar, adrenaline, etc. - for just long enough for us to deal physically with whatever is causing the stress, they continue to do so over long periods.
Eventually, this continuing over stimulation without release (somewhat akin to racing your engine with your foot firmly on the brake) may do permanent damage. Over exerting the pancreas gland necessary to deal with the unutilised sugar in the blood -may lead to hypoglycaemia and eventually diabetes; unrelenting extra blood pressure may lead to hypertension and heart disease; and the continuous strain of adrenaline-like stimulants may undermine the immune system.
There is no doubt that stress has a whole raft of negative impacts on the body. In fact, it has been found to be a significant factor not only in all the diseases mentioned previously but also in the development of depression. And, amid all of these problems, as if they were not serious enough, stress also aggravates acne.
